Hi all… would you like the rundown of the rest of our trip, seen from a 24-hours-later vantage point?
You would? Yay! If you wouldn’t… um… suck it I guess cos that’s what I’m writing about.

Let’s see… when last we met, I was telling you that our ferry had been delayed. So that happened… we finally got on the ferry at about 5:30, and the ferry started moving at about 6:15 pm. We got a little something to eat, each took a shower, then I had Rob take a sleeping pill and sent him off to sleep, because he hadn’t slept the night before.

Now.

We paid $36 extra for reclining chairs. If we’d really wanted to splash out we could’ve paid $140 for a cabin with beds but we didn’t.

Because of his sleeping pill, Rob was able to sleep right away. I was not quite so lucky. There was a couple in the seats next to us who… well let’s just say the gentleman wasn’t happy about his chair.
The chairs weren’t comfortable, I’ll say that. They weren’t. Sure, they reclined… maybe three inches back. And there were foot rests, which were at maybe a 45 degree angle. Couldn’t bring them up any further than that. And the arms were hard, and it was just sucky. Anyway. ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT, every 20 minutes I’d say, this gentleman would SCREAM into the night “Oh I AM NOT COMFY! DARLEEN!” and his wife (I assume her name was Darleen) would try to calm him down. She gave him her pillow. She gave him her blanket. She gave him the sweater she was using as a pillow after she gave him her pillow. So all night, just as I’d barely start to drift off, I’d hear him start grumpling for DARLEEN to HELP HIM. Then when he did finally sleep, he was snoring snoring snoring. I can sleep through snoring but when it’s coupled with his moaning and groaning and turning the light on and bla bla bla… me no happy. Especially since there are so many signs all over the walls in that room saying “Quiet Area. Please do not disturb your fellow passengers”. Yeah, not so much.

At one point I ventured into another area of our floor of the boat, where people were sleeping on the floors. I’d have been tempted to stretch out there except that all the lights were on in that room. Plus I don’t sleep well when Rob’s not near me.

Anyway. Near 6:00 in the morning Mister Grumpy decided it was time for the entire Quiet Room to wake up. He started conversing at the top of his lungs and didn’t stop, even after being “shh”‘d and “Quiet!”‘d four or five times. So basically everyone else just woke up. Rob and I had some breakfast, then I tried to nap a little more (by this time Mr. G had taken off so it was actually quiet in the quiet room). At 8 am they let us visit our cars so I got changed.

Anyway. That’s how the morning went on. We finally docked in Argentia at about 11 am, and did the hour drive to Rob’s parents’ place. His mom and dad were at the park working on the regatta/folk festival. Rob’s mom was in charge of the canteen, cooking mooseburgers. Which by the way were delicious. I love moose. It sounds terrible but I just love it. I can’t eat a lot of farmed meat because I’m allergic but with the moose? I’m okay.

Hmm… yes. So we stayed at the park until probably 5:00. Rob hasn’t been back here in 4 years so people were coming up to him and talking his ear off. His friend Doug from when they were kids came by and we hung around with him and his wife for most of the afternoon. Then it started pouring rain. We came home, and I slept for about 3 hours while Rob caught up with his folks.

And that’s that for the trip… today we are having a turkey dinner and on Thursday we are going to see the Dark Knight. The internet is intermittent here and we’re having fun so I’m not sure when my next post will be but hi! and that was our trip! 31 hours!

31 hours?! Yikes! And Darleen should leave that guy because she’s too good for him.

I think I am about to marry someone related to Mr. Grumpy. Just the snoring part. Not the whiny asshole part.

Glad you made the crossing in one piece! Say hi to Kevin Spacey and Judi Dench for me! I just loved it when she peed on her brother’s ashes!
